My Menopause Blog: Sterilizing Myself

Leslie thinks that the heat from hot flashes keeps germs down and illness at bay. She could very well have a point.

Moist heat may be just the thing to keep flu and colds away but I fear that it's the perfect condition for mold and fungi. So, after I'm heated into a lather, I will diligently perform a lemon rinse to rid myself of spores.

Fruit flies will be another issue.

Oh, the spores thing didn't occurr to me because first of all, I live in the driest of dry areas..so dry you don't even need a towel when you get out of the shower (practically)-so dry, I just put the dishes immediately into the cupboard after hanging them on the rack! Sun Valley, Idaho-a dry, high beautiful place-Love it, but am leaving it soon for moister climates, I see these leathery old women up here, and it is not my future (many other reasons as well for the move!)ANYWAY, to the spores and FUNGI: dare I say I think that the tremendous hot flash heat could stop THEM from getting started too? And even if one little fungi cell did start to fester (foster?), wouldn't another heat storm just annihilate it? Your lemon idea is great of course, though time prohibitive for me. I actually think I may have inadvertantly stumbled on a two for one deal: I take 3 to 4 tablespoons of straight lemon juice daily, just as a cleanser..(I have no acidic or gastric issues)so maybe it is right there, sweating out the spores(tho are there even any here in this high desert?) along with the germs and viruses! I truly do feel protected by my flashes..P.S. my father is a true bio-chemist specializing in the human reproductive system..i did not follow in his footsteps, instead becoming a performer..but he does support some of my "optimistic science" ideas, saying that at least some of the chip came off his block! I feel so honored that The Menopause Blog Queen sistah mentioned me in her blog-WOW, made my day!-Leslie (lespurrfect@msn.com)

Hey, Sue. It's Victoria / I'm Out of Estrogen blog. This is the 4th time I've heard that hot flashes kill germs. Eeesh. Who knows. Also, your dream thing - like the rest of us - menopause related. I read an article about dreams and menopause. I'll go look for it; yours was WILD! (grin) Was gonna do an entry anyway. Love your writing; keep it up! - V

Leslie,

Injesting lemon seems so much easier and way less sticky. I think I'll give that a whirl. I'm still wary of the fungi factor though, having lived through one I acquired in India. I thought I would claw myself to the bone it was sooooo itchy.

Victoria,

Further to germ killer theory I'm hearing that our accumulated body toxins gets incinerated with each flash. Kind of like a baptismal by fire.
